Haleema Bharoocha is a #GenZ changemaker committed to building a world free of gender-based violence.
Following the teachings of the Quran which says “stand firm in justice even against yourself and your parents,” Haleema speaks truth to power, and advocates for the needs of her community.
Haleema is the Senior Advocacy Manager at Alliance for Girls where she leads legislative and community advocacy for a girl-led #GirlsPolicyAgenda.
She believes in the power of people to make a positive change. She facilitates equity-focused workshops for advocates on topics including bystander intervention, Islamophobia, equity, and gender justice and has trained over 700 people.
Haleema graduated from Seattle University at age 19 with a BA in Sociology. She founded the Gender Justice Center, a student-led community center serving gender non-conforming, transgender, and female-identifying students while at Seattle U.
In her free time, Haleema leads media trainings for Muslim women and teaches self-defense with a non-profit, Malikah to build safety and power in her community. She is an alum of the Women's Policy Institute and the Greenlining Leadership Academy. She is guided by her vision for a community where all girls and women live with dignity and respect.
Haleema has spoken in front of audiences 10 to over 500 people and has presented alongside leaders like Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo, Vien Truong, Edna Chavez, and others.
